On May 30, students from Kanazawa University visited Higashiminato Elementary School in Nanao City and held a music exchange program "Creating Together! Music Festival in Higashiminato Elementary School" with 22 third-grade children. From Kanazawa University, 4 second-year students and 1 fourth-year student from the music subject group, School of Teacher Education, College of Human and Social Sciences, 1 first-year student from Division of Regional Development Studies, Graduate School of Human and Socio-Environmental Studies, and 2 teachers from the School of Teacher Education, College of Human and Social Sciences, participated in the event. This music subject group has been conducting music exchange activities as an educational support for Noto since 2024. The students have practiced many times through trial and error, discussing what kind of music would be appreciated, what kind of instruments would be interesting, and what kind of approaching would make the event run smoothly.
The program included performances on trumpet, cajon, shamisen, contrabass, do-re-mi pipe, and other instruments rarely seen in Japan, quizzes to guess the names of songs, and chorus singing. The children were surprised by the tones of the instruments they had never heard before, were curious about the Japanese instruments and the double bass, which is as tall as an adult, listened carefully to the quiz, and joined the chorus in high spirits.
